CONCRETE/STUCCO/ADHESIVES Rust stains on stucco exterior. GZA proved galvanized lath (as claimed) was not the cause of staining, and that staining was caused by metal particles normal to portland cement, and as such could be reasonably anticipated. ELASTOMERIC SEALANT GZA called in six months after sealant installation to determine why the elastomeric sealant in a large exterior reflecting pool was cured in only half the installation while in the other half it had not cured and depolymerized.GZA investigated the history of the installation. The cured half pool was placed in July; the uncured half was placed during a cold spell in November. All material was from same manufacturer, same batch. GZA determined the pool had been acid etched as a paint preparation within two days after sealant had been installed. The acid etching before the sealant cured prevented and reversed any initial cure was installed without consulting the sealant contractor or manufacturer. The painting contractor paid for all damages and repairs. |

GZA proved that surface to which tile and marble had been applied was not prepared for wet service, was not shaded before installation and the setting bed and grout were improper. Judgment granted |
|
| WATERPROOFING Faulty waterproofing in exterior reflecting pool caused leaks in cafeteria below.GZA inspected area, ran tests, and found the contractor did not check the structure for leaks prior to installing a metal sheet waterproofing. It was found the pipes in the slab that supplied water were faulty. It was determined the waterproofing contractor had agreed to undertake the responsibility to provide leak free pools. GZA recommended and supervised the installation of total waterproof installation. |
